Statement:
My work deals with the transcendental and transitory nature of the human experience, offering figurative and abstract representations of the interaction of body and mind; dreams and realities; natural and technological; physical and spiritual. In life, we transcend our physical bodies in various ways (dreams, emotions, death), yet we are attached to our bodies as the means of our experience. I work in numerous mediums, and depending on my state of mind, inspiration can drive my artwork in a number of different directions: a drawing, a painting, a metal sculpture, a piece of music. I see the similarities within all of these art practices: the human necessity to express, and the utilization of the body as a medium to do so. Human existence is shaped by the interaction of both visible, physical, tangible elements, and invisible, nonphysical, intangible ones. As a result, the human figure is often incorporated into my work as a representation of the existential experience, while abstractions express a more metaphorical response.
